Aquacity Poprad

Since we were not allowed to leave the country this year because of the Coronavirus, the only option we had was to have our holidays in Slovakia. This is no tragedy as our country is wonderful, full of mountains, lakes, thermal waters and aquaparks. So we had no problem selecting the beautiful city of Poprad and we accomodated ourselves in the hotel belonging to the Aquacity Poprad waterpark, since out little girl has a passion for swimming. We were before vacationing in the water park a few years before, but the child was very small and I spend most of my vacation in the Treasure Island, the little pool for children. Now having a 7 year old we were sure that the vacation will be much funnier and pleasanter.

We left with the train from Bratislava and in 4 hours we were in the Poprad station. Even if the trip is long you can't get bored as the landscape from the window is amazing, the train runs between beautiful green hills filled with grass or strong trees, over rivers clear as cristal or blue like the sky, the branches of the tress touching the water and swans and ducks swimming gently over the surface.

From the station we took a taxi for the Aquacity. The water park is visible from far and our little girl scream with hapiness seeing the multicolored slides. We were accomodated in the wing of the hotel called The Seasons. We understand there is also the Mountain View, with a view to the mountain Lomnicky Stit and River view with the view on the Poprad river flowing buy. However we chose The Seasons as it was the closest to the entrance to the aquapark and to the restaurant. Also when accomodated to the small but beautiful room, we discovered that we can see even from here, from the balcony the wonderful Tatra mountains and the Lomicky Stit and their blue peaks. The room was very confortable and pleasant and we found little shampoons and soaps in the bathroom, but we were the happiest to find warm nice bathrobes on the bed for us, but also for the child.

After we put all the clothes in the wardrobe, we dressed in the swimming pants, put the robes and went to the Aquacity. As a guest in the hotel we had full access to the water park, the entrance is done with watches that were put on our wrists once we were given the card for the room. The Aquacity Poprad spreads over a large field at the end of the Poprad city, with a wonderful view to the Tatra mountains. There is nothing more beautiful then sitting in the warm watter and watch the blue peaks covered from time to time by white fluffy clouds. From the hotel you are entering the changing rooms, where also the guest who are not accomodated to the hotel are choosing lockers and change themselves. The aquapark areal has a number of 13 pools all filled with water from the thermal underground springs, both outside and inside pools.

The first pool you see when you enter the areal and pass the changing area is the 50 meters swimmers pool, with 8 lanes for profesional swimmers or the people who want to train and make a few lanes before going to the other pools. This pool is mostly full in the morning and evening when the hotel guests want to make their exercise before breakfast or before going to sleep.

From there we moved to the small pool for the little children The tresure Island with it's beautiful blue paintings on the walls and the pirate ship where the children can play, have water rain on then or go on the small slide. On our last trip to Poprad, when the child was 4 years old i spend most of my time in this pool. However now, our girl played a little and then announced me the water is too small and she wants to go the grown up pools.

So we went out of the kidie pool and entered our biggest pool in the whole aquapark, the Blue Sapphire, actually a set of more ring shaped pools of different temperatures and full of buble masage chairs. There are also mushrooms and and bubbly jakuzzis where we loved to dive and swim in the foam.  In the evening the water changes color from blue to green, yellow and red. Also in the evening there is a laser show arranged specially for the guests of the hotel. It is a pleasure to watch Michael Jackson dancing or other fantastic beasts durring the laser show while you lounge in the nicely colored water.

Beautiful are also the Blue Diamond pools, two small pools more for relaxing, which are brightly colored in a dark blue by lamps on the bottom of the pool. We spend a lot of time there as the water was perfectly warm and our little girl loved to dive under with her glasses and watch the blue colors. Also she loved sitting at the bar and driking apple juice from colored glasses.

As much as our we loved the inside pools our favourites were the outside one and the slides. Going out from the Blue Diamond we were getting tt the 2 slides, the Black Hole 71 metter and the Twister 54 metters. There the kid spend a lot of time running down the stairs and sliding with screams and shouts. From the slides we went out to the swimming pool and the relaxing thermal pools. The swimming pool is the coldest from all, however our gilr loves the cold water and we spend a lot of time swiming in it. It is also the only pool from which we were able to see the whole view of the Tatra mountains with all their beautiful peaks and forests. Then we moved to the relaxation pools, the bigger one warm 33 degress Celsius where we could swim and dive and play and let ourselves be masages by jets of warm watter. The small thermal pool is the warmest around 36 degress and is mostly full of older people trying to warm their old bones. We went a few times to try it but our kid didn't really like the hot watter.

There was also a small pool for children, however we never tried it as it was for babies. The star of the aqupark for us was the Mayan pyramid. The pyramid in the middle os 3 beautiful pools is surrounded by different slides. There is one long yellow twister where my kid loved to go, but the queue was very long and she needed to wait. So she enjoyed more the 2 fast red slides, as she never needed to wait for them. Also she loved the large yellow slide, where more children  could slide at the same time.  I loved that i could sit in the pool and relax while my kid ran from one slide to the other, swam and dived in the clear water. In one of the pools there was a current moving us arround and we just let ourselves go with the flow in the screams and shouts of the children and young people arround.

There was also a bouncing castle for the little children however my kid has no interest in it as there was no water.

For one day we took a trip around Poprad, it was a pretty raininy day but the walk was worth it. Even if we know the city already we were happy to walk on the main bulevard, see the great St. Egida cathedral, the weird Crazy Hotel and the fast running Poprad river.

As we were accomodated in the hotel we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel's restaurant, where we enjoyed good and varied foods, a rich breakfast and womnderful slovak food for dinner. Besides this there is a restaurant inside the aquapark, where we stopped in the afternoon as the kid was hungry. There she loved wating the swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes. While with her i loved to enjoy the slovak bryndzove halusky, gyros, pizzas and other cooked meals.

In the evenings we stopped in the bar and enjoyed a coffe or a cake and a Martini while the child played the kiddie corner.I mostly enjoyed the Tatratee, i know it is called tea but in fact it is a very strong alchoolic aperitiv made only in the Slovak Tatras from special herbs. It is not only enjoyable but also good for digestion and throat pains.

I would advise this hotel for a vacation with the familty and mostly with children, if you want romance or quite please make sure you book it in durring the school year and durring the week when not many children will be there.
